You can download SMART Ideas and use it for 30 days without activating it.

Go to www.smarttech.com/support, on the lower left corner of your screen, click on Quick Links - "Downloads" and choose SMART Ideas (see the "Get licensing key" section).  Click on the Operating System software version you want, then click "Download."

The SMART website will collect some data about you.  Then click "Start download."

You could click "Run" to install SMART Ideas.  I prefer to "Save" the Installshield packet to a folder on my hard drive, so I have it later if needed.  This works just like any other software application you are downloading from the internet and installing on your computer.  At school, you may need to have administrator access rights to your computer to do the actual installation.  The 40 MB download only took about 2 minutes on my cable modem at 460 kbs.

Since I saved it to my hard drive, I navigated to the folder I saved it in, and clicked on the Installshield packet.  I created a "SMART Ideas download" folder on my desktop to make it easy to find.

As the packet opens up, I clicked on the "Run" button in the dialog box.

Does anyone actually read the licensing agreement?  Unlike most SMART software, you only get a single-user license to SMART Ideas (meaning you can't put it on a lot of computers).  Click the "accept terms" radio button, then the "Next" button.  You will get the typical dialog screens that you see when you are installing software.  Just keep clicking "Next" to continue the installation process.
